I can't believe that it is almost March already. Though I am excited about Spring Break and March Madness.
I just wanted to offer some thoughts on a few topics...
So I asked a friend to give me a topic to talk about and he suggested I write about Duke winning the National Championship. So here it goes...
It's not going to happen. If he was referring to basketball, then it's not going to happen. But if he meant women's swimming, then maybe.
Another thing I want to address. I heard a question that Sportscenter asked, it was How are the Suns going to get out of this struggles with Shaq?
Well first off, he has played three games and those three games were against the Lakers, Celtics and Pistons. All of whom could be contenders well into the playoffs. So I don't think we can say the Suns are done just because they are 1-2 with Shaq so far. There are still 25 games left in the regular season, so I think they will be just fine.
Also Amare Stoudemire has posted big numbers. With Shaq in the middle Amare's game will expand greatly and he will only help the Suns as the season goes on. As for Shaq, don't expect him to average 20 points a game. His averages will be more like 14 and 10. That might not look good for Shaq but it will be a key factor as he and the Suns get more comfortable down the stretch. So I don't think there is a need to panic out in Phoenix.
Now I want to give my insights on the NBA MVP. Right now it is a two way race between Kobe Bryant and Lebron James, the two best players in the league.
I don't understand when people say Kevin Garnett. He really isn't that valuable to his team. During his recent nine game absence, the Celtics went 7-2. So to me that seems like they are doing pretty well without him. And since his return they have lost three out of four games, against teams with good records. So I know he is a great player, but he is not the most valuable to his team.
I would go and say that Chris Paul is more valuable this season to his team than Garnett is. Paul has been playing great this season and is only going to be getting better and better. He has also led the Hornets to one of the top records out West and is second in the league in assists per game.
Here are my top 5 candidates for MVP this season, through I think it's a run-a-way between Kobe or Lebron.
Kobe Bryant, Lebron James, Chris Paul, Dwight Howard, Steve Nash.
As of right now those are my top five and with two month left in the season, that top five could change or it might not. But with the way Kobe and Lebron have played this season, I think they are well deserving this season. And since Lebron thinks that he won't win an MVP until Kobe does, then I think my choice is a good one.
That's all I got for now. Please leave your comments or give me topic ideas to talk about.
Take it easy.

Let's make a Deal
Wow! What a fun month of February it has been in the NBA. And today's trade deadline sure didn't end quietly, it ended with a bang.
The biggest headline of today comes out of Cleveland where Lebron got some major help... or did he? The Cavaliers, Bulls and Sonics made a huge 11-player deal right as the deadline was closing out. You must be thinking it's about time Cleveland made a trade.
Well I was thinking the same thing and I was excited at first, but now I'm still a little unsure. Yeah we all thought Cleveland needed to make a move, but trading six of your players and only getting four in return is kind of questionable at this point of the season. Maybe this type of deal would have been great during the off season, but during the season with on 30 games left until the playoffs is kind of iffy.
Well here are the basic facts of the trade: Cleveland gets Ben Wallace and Joe Smith from the Bulls and Wally Szczerbiak and Delonte West from the Sonics. The Bulls receive Larry Hughes, Drew Gooden, Cedric Simmons and Shannon Brown from Cleveland. Finally, the Sonics get Donyell Marshall and Ira Newable from Cleveland.
That is way to many people to be trading at this point during the season. Yes Cleveland needed to make a deal, but did they really get what they needed to help put them back into contention with Boston and Detroit?
To be honest, I'm not a fan of this move as of right now. Cleveland really needed a solid guard, either a shooting guard or a pure point guard. I guess they got each of those, but are they really worth it. Are they going to help Lebron win this season or next? I guess I'll have to see how the team plays with their new pieces. On the other hand, I think the Bulls got the better of the deal.
So with all the major trades that started with Pau Gasol going to the Lakers and now big Ben in Cleveland, what is going to happen the rest of the season.
So Phoenix gets the Big Cactus, LA gets the Big Spainard, Dallas gets their Kidd back, Big Ben moves to Cleveland, what do you think? It's been a fun season so far, I am looking forward to the next two months before the playoffs begin.
OH, I almost forgot. In two games since his All Star game MVP, Lebron has posted two strong triple doubles, going 1-1 in the two games. So what will Lebron do now with his new look team. He is going to need to get them in order quickly so they can make a late push for a good playoff spot.
Let me know what you think, leave some comments.

NBA All Star 08 = Great Success

There was a Superman sighting this weekend in New Orleans at the NBA All Star Weekend. And boy was he the biggest attraction of the exciting weekend.
The highlight of Saturday nights festivities was the dunk contest and the creative show Magic bigman Dwight Howard put on for the crowd.
That was one of Howards best dunks of the night and surely earned a 50 to put him over the top as the clear winner of the dunk contest. After being jipped last year, Howard was determined to pull out all the tricks from his super vault.
Then last night the stars took the court for the weekend's main event, the game itself, East vs. West. After getting smacked last year, the East came out fast and got an early lead and held on to the lead the whole game until late in the fourth when the West stepped up their play to make the finish very interesting.
The East was lead by the steller play of Lebron James, Dwight 'Superman' Howard, and Jason Kidd for the first three quarters, then they got some help from Celtics sharp shooter Ray Allen. Allen put on a three point show of his own in the final few minutes of the game helping put the East over the late charge of the West to ensure the victory for the East.
With the way Allen played late in the game, it looked like he would bring home the MVP award with his 27 points off the bench, yet James earned the award with a statline of 27 points, 8 boards and 9 assists. It's hard to argue against James winning the award, but Allen could have easily took the award too.
On the West side, first time all stars Chris Paul had an impressive game with 16 points and 14 assists and Brandon Roy poured in 18 points. With all the young stars in the league at the moment, I know there is no doubt the league will continue to be successful with it's talented young stars.
The Final score was East 132 - West 125, MVP - Lebron James, his second in four games.
In other news, it looks like the Jason Kidd deal to Dallas is back on and on the verge of going through in the next 48 hours or so. So the West continues to add big stars and the East continues to stay dull and not make any major moves, besides the Hawks trading for PG Mike Bibby.
The trade deadline in Thursday, so it will be an interesting next couple of days to see if any East teams make some moves to help improve their teams for the last 30 games before the playoffs.
Here are some video highlights from the All Star game...

Silly Clemens
Mr. Roger Clemens and Brian McNamee got owned yesterday during their congressional hearing. All I want to say is Clemens is in denial and needs to realize that his trainer injected him with an illegal substance to help an injury.
I didn't watch all of the hearing, but from what I caught, both Clemens and Mcnamee were getting crushed by the congress members, trying to get direct answers. Both struggled to give direct answers and were trying to make excuses. I mean if your "buddy" Andy Petitte admitted to using HGH, then why not just be honest now and it won't be as bad in the future Mr. Clemens. Oh well, what can you do.
Hi my name is Devean George and I don't want to go to New Jersey. So the report yesterday was that the Nets and Mavs had a deal ready to go to send JKidd to the Mavs for some Mavs players, one being George. Well it seemed to be on the verge of going through then George disapproved the trade, putting a block on the trade.
I'm glad George did what he did, it gives Danny Ferry a chance to make a trade for Kidd, because we all know Lebron wants Kidd as a teammate and would be disappointed if Ferry didn't make a move before the trade deadline.
Only two days until the big NBA Dunk Contest. I'm going for Rudy Gay or Dwight Howard. Here is a video of some suggested dunks Rudy Gay should attempt during the contest.
What do you think? Can Rudy pull off any of these dunks? We shall see...

NBA All Star 07
Just in case you forgot...
Three of my favorite ballers right there.
So NBA All-Star Weekend is this upcoming weekend and I am most excited about the Dunk Contest. Contestants this year are Rudy Gay, Dwight Howard, Jamario Moon, and defending champ Gerald Green.
Here is a preview of what Moon has in mind...
I don't know why the guy messed up the camera right before he dunked it, but that would be ridiculous.
Stay tuned for more.

Bitter Taste
Before I get to the topic I don't really want to talk about, I want to talk about Shaq and the Suns.
My main man "J-Smak-in-law" got his story all wrong. A great deal for the Heat? Expensive for the Suns? Marion can opt out of his contract after this season and I think he will become a free agent, so there goes that piece of the trade. Now Miami has no inside presence at all. Oldie Alonzo is injured for the season and should call it a career, their center is Mark Blount. Who is that guy? I think Pat should switch his philosophy to how the Suns play, hey J Will running the point, Wade and Marion on the wing and Haslem down low. I think it could work for them.
As for the Suns, I'm confused by the expensive comment. Shaq still has two years left and after those two years he will be 38! He turns 36 next month and he joins Nash who just turned 34 and Grant Hill who is 35.
I just watched his introduction news conference and from what I heard Shaq said, he is completely happy to be in Phoenix and is looking to fit in. Shaq said he doesn't want to take over and get tons and tons of touches, he just wants to join the team and fit in a give them that inside presence they had been lacking. And from what he was saying, I think Shaq will be a good fit and only help improve the Suns. My man Steven Kerr is on cloud 9 right now, he and coach think this is a great improvement for their team and I can't agree more.
Shaq is excited to work with Amare to help make him an even better player than he is right now. He will finally be playing his natural position at power forward, so his game should improve drastically. If anyone remembers I picked the Suns to win the NBA Championship for this season just to be different, but I feel pretty good about that pick now. Watch out for the Suns, they are going to become an even more dangerous team.
As for this bitter taste I have in my mouth, I have nothing really to say. All I have done this morning is read every sporting website from ESPN to SI to even USA Today. Every site has the same theme, Duke is a great team under the radar and UNC is overrated. And all of these articles are just frustrating to read and see how these journalists and columnists can write this non sense.
Let's take a flash back to the preseason, here's what you read... North Carolina is one of the most explosive teams in the nation. Along with UCLA, UNC has the best shot at reaching the National Championship.
Now I'm reading Duke has a better shot at making it to the Final Four than UNC. UNC will be lucky if they make it to the Elite 8. All of this baffles me.
J you said great rebounding? UNC out rebounded them by 11, Duke got half its rebounds in the last minute of the game when UNC was throwing up bricks. The only really great thing Duke did was make 3 pointers, and really that is all they have. If Duke won the National Championship, I would be totally shocked because this team is really not a National Contending team. I think teams like UCLA, Memphis or Kansas would shut them down, because those teams play superior defense.
I know people don't like the excuse that UNC didn't have Lawson, but the honest truth is he is a big leader that runs UNCs offense. They had a third string player running the point playing 35 minutes where he normally plays ten tops. Thomas had six crucial turnovers and was playing way off his game trying to do too much leading to unnecessary turnovers. The only reason Duke won by eleven points was the bad shot selection in the last minute because UNC didn't have that floor general in Lawson. I don't know how anyone could not except that, he runs the show and that's why UNCs offense was out of whack the whole game.
I'll admit Duke is playing good team ball. That's because their healthy and playing well. But I don't go with all the critics and columnists. UNC will come around and play team defense and come March 8th in Cameron Indoor it will be a different story without question. Lawson will have a huge game, along with Hansbrough like always. UNC will win their third straight game at Duke ruining Nelsons Senior Day.
I believe in this team, they have the offense, last night was probably their worst played game and they hung around the whole game, so I know it can be done. Lawson will have his team in order and it will be a huge game for UNC. You watch and see. Don't count the Tar Heel nation out yet, they will come around.

Big Moves Out West
Well there have actually been some big names switching teams around the NBA. The first big trade was Pau Gasol going to the LA Lakers to join Kobe and company. And after his first game, it looks like it is going to be a good fit. The only thing was Kobe only scored 6 points his lowest total is ten years.
Now an even bigger name is going to be on the move pending the results of his physical. The Diesel Shaq O'Neal is on his way out of South Beach and headed back out West, this time to Phoenix. That's right, Shaq is going to the Suns in exchange for Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks.
Well Marion got his wish of leaving the Suns, but he is going to the worst team in the league. And Miami has decided to move along with D-Wade and part ways with the aging O'Neal. Shaq who has two years left on his contact says he doesn't want to retire until he wins at least one more championship.
Well he has a better shot this season as he will be joining a title contending team in the Suns. But will he with the Suns that inside presence they have been lacking to finally get them over the hump? Well we will surely see for the rest of the season.
The thing is the Suns are asking Shaq to give the most of his energy on the defensive side, but will Shaq be able to sacrifice his offensive dominance for the team to help on the defensive side. Personally I think Shaq is at a point in his career where that might be a good idea. The Suns like to push the tempo as much as possible, so maybe Shaq will give into the Nash mentality and play some defense and dish some dimes on the offensive end.
But I think the combo of Nash, Shaq and Stoudemire could be a big force and help them against the other big teams in the West.
In other news I have something I need to say. You know, I just think it is my time. I don't feel like coaching anymore, I'm bored with it. I'm tired, old, I've got the most wins of any men's coach and not interested and coaching this team anymore...
Oh my bad, I was talking about Texas Tech Head Coach Bobby Knight called it quits randomly during the season the other day. Knight said he was bored and tired of coaching. Well that's understandable; you're 67 and coaching a mediocre young team that doesn't have a chance at winning the championship.
Knight turns the reigns over to his son Pat Knight, who will become the Red Raiders head coach for the remaining of the season. I think it was his time anyways. Today it is becoming popular to have a young coach who has a bright upside and can get to know his players better.
Knight just recently passed the 900 career wins plateau and stands with the most wins by a Men's coach in Division I history. Another coach I can think of that should call it a career is San Francisco basketball coach, ex Oklahoma State coach Don Sutton. He recently earned his 800th career win, and that guy is like 76.
Anyways Knight will always be remembered as a greater teacher of the game and will always be known as one of the best coaches in Basketball History.

Super Bowl Champions...
NEW YORK GIANTS!!!
17-14
MVP:
Eli Manning
Congratulations to the Giants and their huge win in Super Bowl 42!
Super Bowl Sunday: 42
Well it is officially that day of the year, one of the most anticipated days to sit down and enjoy of football game between the two best teams in the league facing off to play for the NFL championship.
From the NFC, we have the G-Men, New York Giants and from the AFC, we have the undefeated, New England Patriots.
These two teams faced off in week 17 of the regular season and it was a well fought game by the Giants, but the Patriots pulled out the victory 38-35.
Now I'm no betting guy, so I'm going to make two predictions, one being a pick of what I want to happen and the other being what I would pick if I was betting.
So I am a NFC type of guy or at least I'm not a Patriots fan. So I will be rooting for the Giants, who have been playing tough football for the past two months of the long season.
Now I know the Patriots are a good team at making adjustments, especially after a bye week, and since its been two weeks since their last game, I know the Patriots are going to come out firing. But I think the Giants will be able to hang in there and answer back.
Unlike Burress, who picked the Giants to win 23-17, I'm going to say this Super Bowl will be a shootout just like it was in week 17. So here's my pick...
I like the Giants to win: Giants 34 - Patriots 31.
Now if I was putting some money on this game, which I am not, then I would have to go with the "safe" choice and go along with more than half of the nation and choose the Patriots. And I would bet the Patriots would win by at least two touchdowns.
So I would bet: Patriots 31 - Giants 17.
So there are two views of how I think the Super Bowl will go. But when it comes down to it, I am rooting for the Giants to end the Patriots perfect season and end their run of three super bowl wins in the past seven seasons.
Eli will join his brother a year later after Peyton won his first Super Bowl, as it will be back to back Manning wins. I also think it's going to come down to Eli's arm and his ability to manage a come from behind victory and Eli will be named Super Bowl XLII MVP.
So there you have it. Giants over Patriots in Super Bowl XLII.
Enjoy the Game!
