Well some of you may or may not know this, but this is my 50th post since my launch back in March. I think that is a great accomplishment and have enjoyed this. I don't know if I have improved my writings and what not, but I hope I have made it interesting for those loyal fans out there! Thanks for the support!
Now enough of the mush mush. In the wee morning hours on Monday October 29th, the Boston Red Sox became the World Champions once again of the baseball world. It was their second title in the past four years after the dreaded 86 year curse of the Bambino. After winning five of the first fifteen MLB championships way back in the early 1900s, the Red Sox now have their seventh overall and are the well deserve top MLB franchise this decade.
Boy was I excited. The Sox swept the Rockies and finished off a great season that included winning their last seven games after being on the brink of elimination trailing the Indians 3-1 in the ALCS. Of course the rest is history, RED SOX NATION is on top again!
With baseball season officially over, it is now officially Basketball season! The NBA regular season gets under way tonight and the reigning champs are presented with their Championship Rings before the game. The Spurs will seek to win back to back titles for the first time.
So far the Spurs have been the team of the decade having won four titles in nine seasons. The other five belong to the Lakers (3) and the Pistons (2). As some of you might have noticed, I already made my picks for the season. I kind of went off my norms and made a pick I'm not to fond of, but that's how it goes.
As for news around the league, the big story of course is Kobe trade talks. Seriously, just trade the guy and stop being so picky about it. Kobe obviously isn't a proven leader to carrying his team to a championship. So send him to wherever and hope he has a better supporting cast than the Lakers. Or just shut your trap and dominate the league and get over the top and win a championship. Either get yourself traded or strap in and be a leader and get your team in check. That's how I feel about that situation.
As for the Cavalier sleepers out there. You all will be sorry because Lebron is only going to get better in all aspects of his game and he will carry his team, because he did it last year and he proved that. The guy has been on the cusp of winning the MVP award for the past two years, so don't be surprised when he wins it this season, after dominating the league.
This week in the NFL, the two bests teams square off in a battle of the only remaining unbeatens. Who else but the Patriots (8-0) and the Colts (7-0). It marks the first time in NFL History that a pair of teams with a record of at least 7-0 have faced each other.
I think this could actually be a good game. It will probably come down to defense trying to stop a team from scoring late in a close game. I want the Colts to win, but I am going to have to go with the 5-wide offense Patriots to win 31- 24. This game could have to potential to be an offensive explosion and back and forth scoring. Also one team could step their defense up and shut down the other team. Who knows, we will only know on Sunday.
Enjoy some basketball tonight!

BBall, Part II
I kind of rushed through my picks and didn't get a chance to pick my award winners.
I'll give you three guys who should/will win the MVP award this season; Phoenix Suns floor general Steve Nash, Cleveland Cavaliers All-Star Lebron James, and new Boston Celtic Kevin Garnett.
Each of those players are the most important players on their teams and should be in the running for MVP is season. I think Lebron will win just because he doesn't have two key players from last years team due to hold outs, and the high expectations after making the NBA Finals next season. He will have to prove to all the critics who think the Cavs stink that he is a leader year round and the MVP of the league.
As for Rookie of the Year, it will either be Seattle Sonics Forward Kevin Durant or Los Angeles Clippers Forward Al Thorton. Plain and simple, these two guys have great athletic ability and will no doubt be future stars of the NBA.

F Lebron James
G Kobe Bryant
G Steve Nash
Now for the NCAA picks. You know I am excited because my Tar Heels are the preseason number 1 and are back to revenge their disappointing lose to the Hoyas in the Elite 8 last season. UNC is the obvious favorite to win the ACC for the second straight season.
Here are my top eight teams that have a good chance at making it to the Elite 8 in the NCAA tournament come March.
- North Carolina Tar Heels
- UCLA Bruins
- Memphis Tigers
- Louisville Cardinals
- Kansas Jayhawks
- Georgetown Hoyas
- USC Trojans
- Indiana Hoosiers
I'll leave you with that.

That time of the year!
It's Basketball season. The preseason college Hoops rankings are out and is there any surprises who number one could be? No.
But first I have to rant about last nights college football game.
The new number two team, the Boston College Eagles playing at the number eight team, the Virginia Tech Hokies at Lane Stadium on a Thursday night, in the cold rain.
Tech is known to be unbeatable on games played Thursday night at Lane, yet the Eagles obviously don't believe the hype, handing both of Tech's two loses played on Thursday night. Lane Stadium is packed, no one cares about the rain. It's raining the whole game until half way through the third quarter and Tech has played great holding a 10-0 lead into the fourth quarter.
Tech continues its well defensive play for the first eight minutes of the fourth quarter, then BC quarterback Matt Ryan just decided to play the game. Ryan had two interceptions and then leads BC down the field, eluding the pass rush and finding Wide receivers getting open on broken routes. BC scores with two minutes left in the game and then kick the onside kick and what do you know, they come away with the ball.
Now is the time when me and my bud are saying if Tech loses this game would be awful. Having talked about the whole second half about rushing the field after a Tech victory over the number two team in the land.
Well as many of you know, Matt Ryan leads BC down the field and throws a 24 yard touchdown pass on third down with 11 seconds remaining on the clock, yet again buying time and waiting for his receivers to get open.
Well, Matt Ryan is a very impressive quarterback and he showed it in the fourth quarter at Lane Stadium on Thursday night. Ryan was considered one of the top Heisman candidates so far this season and I think he just etched his name into that trophy as this years winner. BC has a good chance to win out the remaining of the season and will probably be in national championship contention.
Disappointing lose for the Hokies who have been fighting to earn respect across the country and many people consider them overrated. Which is false and not including the last few minutes of the game should prove that Tech is legit. It just happens that Matt Ryan is obviously better than Tech's defense late in the game.
NBA season is ready to start the regular season and hand the San Antonio Spurs their fourth Championship ring is the last nine seasons. Here's my outlook for the season.
Yeah, how's that for a screwball. I could easily pick the Spurs to repeat, but I don't want to do that. I think the Suns will finally break that barrier this season.
North Carolina Tar Heels Preseason Number 1.
Enough said.

It's almost BBall season
I can't believe it's almost November and that means the beginning of the new NBA season. That means I have to make my mind up on some season predictions. I'll do that later in the week when I'm not so busy.
But I am so excited. And its getting close to holiday season, which is exciting two. I'm just in a good mood as of late.
Oh and the NFL season is almost half way over. That is hard to believe, it seems like opening kickoff was just a week ago. There haven't been too many surprises so far this season, except for maybe Tom Brady on his way to breaking Peyton Mannings Pass touchdown record, that he only broke three seasons ago. After seven games, Brady has an astonishing 27 touchdown passes and only 2 interceptions.
Those stats are just out of this world. I'm pretty sure it makes it a lot easier when you run 5-wide formations every down too, and you have the likes of Randy Moss and Daunte Stallworth on your team. Anyways, I picked the Patriots to go to the super bowl (unfortunately) and still feel good back that pick, except they won't being playing the Eagles, and they will win (unfortunately).
There was a record broken this past week. Tennessee Titans Kicker made 8 field goals, going a perfect 8/8 as the Titans barely hold on to beat the Texans. The previous record was 7 held by four different kickers. Eight field goals is really a sign of poor offense finishing off a drive, but that is understandable when Kerry Collins is the QB.
OH yeah I almost forgot!
RED SOX!
That's what I'm talking about. Red Sox evidently don't believe in being on the cusp of elimination. Trailing 3-1, the Sox outscored the Indians 30-5 in the last three games of the season. For the second time in four seasons will be going to the World Series after trailing 3-0 (to the Yankees in 2004) and 3-1 (to the Indians) in the ALCS.
They now face the hottest team out of the National League in the Colorado Rockies, who enter the World Series having won 21 of 22 games. I'm looking for another long series for the Red Sox and come out on top in game seven to win their second World Championship in four seasons.
That's all for now, I'll be back with the NBA/College Basketball Preview later.

Tigerade?
That's basically what it should be called...
Gatorade Tiger
Yes that's right, Mr. Woods will be making even more money to his already extreme amount. Kind of got my thinking, I wonder why Michael Jordan never got a deal like this. I mean he was basically the original centerpiece to Gatorade in the 90s.
But never the less, Tiger is just doing it all. You can count on me buying some "Tigerade." I think it's a great marketing approach. So be on the look out for some Gatorade Tiger early next year.
The crazy Rockies have won their first ever NL pen net by sweeping the Arizona Diamondbacks, and have now won 21 of 22 games heading into the World Series.
They will face the winner of the Boston-Cleveland series, which the Indians now lead 3-1, unfortunately. I'm looking for a Red Sox turn-around like they did back in 2004. It's never out of the question for the Sox. Red Sox Nation never gives up until it is officially over or as some people like to say, it ain't over until the fat lady sings.
I can't believe October is more than half way over already. That's a good thing though.
Later.

What a Sweet Monday Night
WOW!
Boy am I one happy camper. The Yankees lose and I saw one of the best endings to a football game I have ever seen.
WOW!
First off, the Cleveland Indians ended the Yankees season after winning 6-4 last night at Yankee Stadium. It has now been seven seasons since the Yankees have won a Championship, and I couldn't be happier. I think it's time for the Yankees to get a whole new look because their bring in every veteran player and pay them as much as we can philosophy doesn't seem to be working. To be honest, I think Joe Torre should take George Steinbrenners position, because The Boss seems to be loosing his touch as a Owner.
They should have brought in Lou Pinella this past off season, I'm sure he could made it to the postseason and lost in the first round (just like he did with Chicago). I don't know if its just me, but it seems like older veteran teams don't seem to be getting it done. Example: Both New York teams and a few others. The trick to winning these days is having a few stud youngsters that bring that high energy.
Anyways, Yankees are done and I am excited.
Now for the Buffalo Bills. That lose last night shows how bad they really are. Or is it the Cowboys are just that good? Well 21 of the Bills 24 points, were scored off of defense or special teams. The field goal they got on offense wasn't off a nice long drive down the field. They got the ball near mid field off a turnover and only got a field goal.
I mean their defense did pretty much all they could do to try to win that game. Six total turnovers, 5 INTS and 1 fumble recovery. As for the Cowboys, they just couldn't buy a break on offense in the first half. QB Tony Romo threw 4 INTS in the first half and just didn't look like his normal self. Still they just trailed by a touchdown at halftime.
But the end of the game was one of the most exciting I have ever experienced. Down 24-16, Romo stay poised and led his team down the field and scored a touchdown with just 20 seconds remaining on the clock. So they go for a two point conversion trying to tie the game. Buffalo brings an all out blitz and of course Romo throws a jump ball up to Owens and it appeared Owens brought it in, but the Bills CB kept his eye on the ball and knocked it out of Owens grabs.
So the game is over right? Bills leading 24-22, the Cowboys go with the onside kick and what do you know, it was set up perfectly and the Cowboys recover the ball on the 47 yard line.
Once again, WOW!
Can you guess what happens next? Well, Romo throws about a 20 yard pass to Owens and it appeared to be caught, so the Cowboys rush to the line to spike the ball and stop the clock and they did so with just 1 second remaining on the clock. But no, the referee blows the whistle and goes to review the catch. And of course it hits the ground and its now second down with 13 seconds remaining. Well two quick passes are completed and they get out of bounced to stop the clock and with two seconds remaining, rookie kicker Nick Folk lines up a 53 yard field goal to win this amazing game.
The kick is up... It's good! Wait a second, the Bills call a last second timeout before the kick.
No problem, Folk lines it up and nails the kick again and it is over. Cowboys 25-24!
WOW! What a game.
For those of you who watched this game that ended just before midnight, I'm sure you would agree that this is one of the best endings to a game I have ever seen.
And what's even better, the Cowboys are now set to face the undefeated Patriots at home in a battle of two of the three remaining unbeaten teams in the league.
Got to love Monday Night Football!

I need some cold weather
Well the NBA preseason is officially underway and the bandwagon Celtics got their first victory with their new look. Of course it was a come from behind victory since the feisty young Raptors were showing them what was up. But Garnett got his usual double-double, Pierce was the leading scorer and Allen is just old and shoots to much, and doesn't even make half his shots. So that's all I got to say about that.
Well I once again got a World Series prediction wrong, half of it at least. The Phillies got swept by the Hot Hot Hot Rockies, who have won 17 of their last 18 games. The Cubbies tragic postseason woes continue as well, as they were swept by the Diamondbacks.
On the other side, my Red Sox swept the Angels and await the Cleveland-New York winner, with the Indians up 2-1 at the moment. The Sox just looked dominate whether it was batting, pitching or fielding. To me they still seem like the favorite to win it all.
Well a little intercollegiate football news, number 1 Southern Cal lost their 35 game home win streak dating back to 2001 after loosing to the Stanford Cardinals, 24-23. Thank goodness is all I got to say. I am seriously tired of that team winning, even if they are a really good team. I thought all along that LSU was the better team, and they proved at Saturday after coming from behind to beat a tough Florida Gators team.
By the way, I think Tim Tebow is one of the most exciting quarterbacks to watch. He's a big dude, has a cannon for an arm, and has the toughness and fearlessness of any player. If he stays all four years, I think he could develop into a very promising quarterback coming into the NFL.
As for this so called South Florida team being ranked fifth in the nation, I'm not buying that. So they beat West Virginia, and they jump from being number 18 to being ranked sixth. Now they're ranked in the top five. So you're telling me they are one of the best five teams in the nation? False. This is why I don't like college football rankings and BCS mess. It's so unrealistic.
Speaking of cold weather, it's about darn time it gets cold. This 80 and 90 degree weather in the glorious month of October is uncalled for. (I know I am jumping all over the place, from topic to topic).
What else...
I'm trying to decide if I want to play in a Fantasy basketball league this year. I have for the past three or four seasons, not finishing to hot in them. For some reason I tend to do well in Fantasy Football. I probably will end up joining a league and that is cool.
The Fall semester is half way over after this week, hooray!
Back to NFL news, Dolphins veteran QB Trent Green suffered his second concussion in the past 13 months after diving low to block a defender and was kneed in the head. This is always a sad event, especially when the player is knocked out. I think it would be smart for the 37 year old QB to take precaution and reevaluation his situation so he doesn't cause permanent damage to his body.
It's not unlikely to have your career ended due to many concussions. Look at my man Steve Young, he had about six or seven concussions and had to call it a career at about the same age. Same goes for Cowboys great Troy Aikman, he was about 34 or 35 when he was forced to retire from two many head blows and concussions. So as you may love to play the sport, it's always important to savor your life too.
That's just my little serious thought for the day.

There's only one Actober
Well this is where my sweet post I just wrote should be, but evidently Blogger decided to have an error problem when I pressed the post button, and evidently the auto save feature wasn't working either, so I lost my sweet post completely. Kind of sad right now, I don't think I can rewrite that post... sorry folks.
Here's my playoff picks:
Red Sox over Angels
Indians over Yankees
Phillies over Rockies
Cubs over Diamondbacks
Red Sox over Indians in 7
Phillies over Cubs in 6
World Series: Red Sox over Phillies in 7

October is in the air
So I read this comment from my most loyal reader John and I just can't get over his sense from time to time. I think he does it on purpose to spark me. So I'm going to start off with what I think of this comment.
In the last post as some of you might know, I picked two teams from each NBA conference that I think could be in the Conference championships. I chose Chicago and Miami.
Now ever since Kevin Garnett got traded to the Boston Celtics, John jumped on the bandwagon. That is understandable, but where in the world did you get the Nets? First off they lost their only inside presence in Mikki Moore, who wasn't a true big man. Secondly, I would choose the Wizards before I even thought of the Nets. Heck I would even choose the Raptors. Yeah the Nets beat them in last years playoffs, but that was because the Raptors are a young team and were inexperienced. I am a Vince Carter and J Kidd Fan, but there is no way they are a better choice over, Detroit, Miami, Cleveland, Chicago, Washington or even the Celtics.
Here let's do this. Mark it down, I will give you 5o dollars if the New Jersey Nets and Boston Celtics are in the Eastern Conference Finals of the 2008 NBA playoffs. Write it down John, that is a promise to you.
If those two teams are the remaining teams in the East, then something catastrophic must have happened and I probably will not be an NBA fan anymore, because that just wouldn't make any sense at all. If you are going to pick the Nets, you might as well change that choice to the Pacers. I mean how is it that you think the Nets are a top team in the East? I know the East isn't as stacked as the West, but there are certainly a few more teams better than the Nets.
The Nets will finish third in the East division this season behind Toronto and Boston. So I am just confused at that logic.
And you can't tell me that you don't think the Bulls are back in consideration for a top team in the East. I mean they drafted one of your Florida boys in Jokehim Noah, I know even your wife would agree with me. But I'm not trying to bash you, I just don't see your logic in choosing the Nets. I'm still 50-50 on choosing Boston too, but if they play together, then they have a better shot than the Nets.
What's it going to be? I thought you were a Pacers fan, then you turned into a Agent Zero Washington fan, now the Boston bandwagon. I don't know...
Anyways, that kind of got extensive but we are officially through the first month of the NFL season and only four undefeated teams remain, two from each conference. New England, Indianapolis, Dallas and Green Bay. The AFC looks normal, while the NFC looks like the dominate days of the 90s with Dallas and Green Bay.
Brett the hitman Favre is now all by himself at the top of the All-time touchdown passes leader list. Better extend that number as much as you can, because Mr. Peyton Manning will be soon to follow, most likely setting a new standard mark that will last for quiet awhile.
Coming next, its the Postseason and also the New York Mets historic collapse.
