Hokies get redemption

Well it's officially December 1 and that means only 24 more days until Christmas! It also means that the Virginia Tech Hokies get their rematch against the Boston College Eagles in the ACC Championship today.

If the Hokies win this game today, they have an outside chance to play in the BCS National Championship, but they would have to get a lot of help in front of them. But if they win, they guarantee a BCS Bowl game, most likely the Orange Bowl.

But the most important fact of today is Tech gets their rematch that they have been playing for the past four games since the tough home loss to the Eagles in the final four minutes of the game. After that lose, the Hokies didn't get down on themselves, they made a vow to win out the rest of the season to have that shot to play the Eagles again in the ACC Championship and they achieved that goal by beating the UVA Cavaliers last Saturday.

I was at that game about a month ago and the Hokies have even more of a chance to beat the Eagles because QB Tyrod Taylor is healthy and has been sharing time with Sean Glennon that past four games and both have been playing well. If Tech plays defense like they did up until the last four minutes of the game, then Tech will without a doubt beat the Eagles and earn their second ACC Championship is three seasons.

I got the Hokies winning 24 - 7.

John you must have read my mind because last night I was watching the Jazz-Lakers game and I checked out the Magic-Suns game and had a thought I'd like to share.

Two studs that will take over the league in the next couple of years, if not this season, Jazz PG Deron Williams and of course Magic C Dwight Howard.

Of course it is obvious that Howard has become the most dominant center in the league today, but Deron Williams will be right behind him without question.

I'm sitting there watch Kobe and Deron trade baskets back and forth last night. Kobe would come down and stroke a three ball. Then Deron comes down and crosses Derek Fisher out of his shoes and then cuts through the lane and gets a lay up. This happened out five possessions in a row during the second quarter.

I remember a few years ago when Deron was a senior at Illinois and he led that team to the National Championship in 2005 against my Tar Heels. Of course the Heels won that game, but I remember Williams was killing us from three point land.

Well now he is in his third season and has become one of the toughest guards to defend off the dribble. Not only does he have size but he has the quickness and handles to take it by many guards that are smaller than him. He will surely be an All-Star for seasons to come.

As for Mr. Howard, he is still only 21 years old, he turns 22 next week and is just taking over the league in the paint.

He is leading the league in rebounds and has improved his scoring each season he has played. He is averaging 20 points a game so far this season, and after having a touch game held to nine points, comes back the next game and scores a career high 39.

He also has two games this season with at least 30 points and 20 rebounds, which is just crazy. With Howard being mentored by Knicks great Patrick Ewing, Howard is well on his way to leaving his mark in NBA History. This young man-child will on continue to get better skillfully and continue to lead the Magic and make them a top tear team in the league.

Have a good Saturday and enjoy some college football and basketball.
