R.I.P. Sean Taylor

Wow. What a shocking turn of events. Monday morning I wake up and hear Sean Taylor had been shot and is in critical condition. Then later in the day I hear he squeezed a nurses hand. Then I wake up Tuesday morning and safety Sean Taylor has passed away. How devastating.

Sean Taylor is by far my favorite Redskin player. He was only in his fourth season in the league and having the best season thus far in his young career. He was definitely on his way to being one of the best safeties in NFL history. He already had a reputation of being a hard hitter. But this season, he became more versatile and began to round out is skills. He is tied for the NFC lead with five interceptions.

I mean the Redskins were even looking set for the future having drafted LSU hard hitting safety LaRon Landry this year to join Taylor. To think a young safety in his third season makes the Pro Bowl and then is having the best season of his career, someone pulls an awful act like that and Taylor couldn't hang on to survive.

Rest In Peace Sean Taylor, we all know you are at peace now.

Got a comment from my man John. Always appreciate it when he leaves comments and I encourage others to leave comments as well.

So you think that earning triple doubles doesn't include getting his team involved. How do you get your team involved? By passing right? Well he must be passing the ball when he earns more than ten assists. How many career Triple Doubles does Kobe Bryant have? Kobe has 14 career. Lebron has 14 in the regular season and two in the post season. Lebron is just in his young fifth season while Kobe is around eleven I believe.

Here's how I like to look at it. At the moment, Kobe is a scorer. He is just trying to do to much offensively to help his team win. Of course so far this season we haven't seen any consecutive games with 50 plus points, but I'm sure that will happen at some point this season.

As for Lebron. His team is in rough shape overall at the moment. They have injuries to important players and also a restricted free agent who remains unsigned and in a recent report wants to be traded. So Lebron is doing the right thing at the moment. He is playing quarterback. He is managing their games by keeping them close until the fourth quarter and then turning in it like he did against the Pistons in the playoffs last season. What do I mean by managing? He is getting his teammates involved by drawing attention and passing to open players. That is what a superstar does.

Kobe is just in a difficult situation right now. He hasn't played like he has the past few seasons because he still wants to be traded but it won't happen anytime soon. So he isn't in Kobe pour on 81 points mode. So when Kobe starts averaging 30 points, 8 rebounds, and 8 assists a game, then I might change my argument.

As for those people that still believe last seasons playoffs were a flook and the Cavs had an easy road is bogus to me. They beat the Detroit Pistons. They were the favorite last season, Lebron and Daniel Gibson beat them in the last two games of the season. The only reason it was a flook they made it was because they got swept by the Spurs in the Finals, if they had won just one game it wouldn't have been that big of a deal.

I'll say it, the Spurs are a superior team. It was the first time the Cavs had been in the NBA Finals. The only player they had that had ever played in the Finals was Eric Snow. So I feel it also comes down to experience. The Spurs know how to win championships, that is their goal and that's what they do.

So as for Lebron staying in Cleveland, he will stay there. Will he speak up and talk to Danny Ferry about getting him support is the question. Seeing as Ferry hasn't brought back their best bench player, right now it doesn't look positive. But I think Lebron will speak up when it is contract extension time. Once he got a taste of the Finals glory, he is determined to win it all. Lebron James is a winner, plain and simple. He will get in done in the future. As for Kobe, his time and options are running out.

My only comment here...and I guess point of contention...is that I was talking about "making your teammates better." That is different from "getting them involved." The former is about getting your teammates to rise above their own limitations, to play at a higher level, to be more. The latter is simply abut throwing them a ball where they can score. And so while making teammates better MAY involve getting them involved in teh scoring, that is certainly not the only thing. I am not sure there is any evidence that LeBron is making his teammates better. I am not sure there is for Kobe either, but I think he has the better case...thus far.

Ok...I'm beating MJ to the punch. LeBron was impressive against the Big 3 last night...AND it was a BIG win for him....and the Cavs. I am sure he earned a lot of respect from KG and Pierce and Ray.

BUT did you catch the stat line from Kobe? Something like 37, 8, and 6.
